Banking

Monitor eligible asset and liability accounts, review source coverage, and open each account's transaction feed.

Banking is the starting point for transaction work. It brings bank, card, clearing, and loan accounts together with their transaction-review and reconciliation status.

Open Banking

Select a client, then choose Banking in the client sidebar. The overview shows shortcuts for Uncategorized, Documents, Rules, and Reconciliations, followed by the client's eligible accounts.

Use search to find an account. Each row can show its connection type, status, uncategorized count, reconciliation status, and most recent transaction. Select an account to open its feed.

Before you begin

  • Read access is sufficient to view accounts and transactions. Write access is required to add an account, connect data, change its Banking visibility, or act on transactions.
  • The client needs an eligible asset or liability account in the chart of accounts. Bank and credit-card types appear by default; another asset or liability account can be shown deliberately.
  • Decide whether activity will come from a connected feed, uploaded statements, or manual entries. Using overlapping sources without checking dates can create duplicate candidates.
  • Confirm the intended historical start date before fetching a connected feed.

Understand the overview

The account's Connection value distinguishes connected activity, such as Plaid, from manual activity. A connected account can still have missing dates or uncategorized transactions, so confirm its coverage before review.

Inside an account, use these tabs:

  • Transactions contains the review feed.
  • Reconciliations contains saved reconciliation reports for the account.
  • Statements & API shows uploaded statements and connected-account updates.

The feed header also provides Categorize Faster, Add transactions, and, when applicable, Reconcile.

Add an account to Banking

  1. From an empty Banking state, choose Add account, or create the appropriate asset or liability account in the chart of accounts.
  2. Select an existing ledger account or create a new one with the correct account type.
  3. Choose the source path: connect a feed, upload statements, or enter activity manually.
  4. Confirm the account name and any identifying details used by your team, such as institution or last four digits.
  5. Open the account and verify the first and last dates in the feed before starting review.

If an eligible ledger account is hidden, edit that account in the chart of accounts and enable Show in Banking.

Hide an account from Banking

Use Hide from Banking when an account should remain in the ledger but should no longer occupy the Banking workspace. Hiding it removes the account from this overview only. It does not delete the chart-of-accounts record, journal history, transactions, source connection, or prior reconciliation history.

To restore it, open the chart of accounts, edit the account, and choose Show in Banking.

Result and side effects

Adding an account makes it available for imports, transaction review, and reconciliation. Connected or uploaded transactions still need review and do not affect reports until they are posted or matched to existing accounting activity.

A connected account can fetch later activity. A manually maintained account can still receive statement uploads, checks, receipts, invoices, and manual transactions.

Correct or undo setup

  • If the wrong ledger account was exposed, hide it from Banking and show the correct one. Do not delete an account merely to remove it from the overview.
  • If the wrong account was connected, stop before importing more dates and review the connection settings. Preserve already-reviewed history while correcting the connection.
  • If possible duplicates appear, compare the institution, date, amount, description, and statement coverage before excluding or deleting anything.
  • If the account itself is incorrectly configured, correct it in the chart of accounts. Existing journal references may limit destructive changes.

Troubleshooting

The account does not appear. Verify that it is an asset or liability account and that Show in Banking is enabled. Equity, revenue, and expense accounts are not eligible for the Banking workspace.

The account appears but has no activity. Open Statements & API to check whether a statement is queued, processing, needs review, or completed. For a connected source, use Fetch from Bank and inspect connection status.

The latest date is older than expected. Use Fetch from Bank, confirm the selected start date, and reconnect the institution if the connection needs attention.

The uncategorized count seems wrong. Open the account feed and clear filters. Review Uncategorized, Posted, and Excluded separately.

An account was hidden accidentally. Restore it from the chart of accounts with Show in Banking; its historical data remains attached.

Next, use Add Data to fill gaps or go directly to Transaction Review.
