Client Collaboration

Client Portal Guide

Invite a client and understand what clients can do in the Wesley portal.

The client portal is the client-facing side of Wesley. Firm users open it from Client Portal in the client sidebar or from the client access settings. Portal users see only clients to which the firm has granted access.

Invite a client

  1. Open Client Settings → Client Access.
  2. Enter the client user’s email address and send an invitation.
  3. The user signs in and accepts the pending invitation.
  4. Confirm that the user can select the intended client in the portal.

The firm can cancel a pending invitation or revoke active access. A portal user cannot add another client or change their own authorization.

Portal navigation

The portal opens to the client’s request center and has five main areas:

Requests

Requests is the default workspace. To do contains questions that need the client’s response, Waiting contains replies that are back with the accounting team, and Done preserves completed conversations. Clients can open a request, reply, attach supporting files, or start a general request of their own.

When a firm user selects specific recipients while creating a request, only those recipients can list, open, reply to, or mark that request as read. Older requests without a recipient scope remain available to all active portal users for that client.

Files

Clients can send statements, receipts, spreadsheets, and supporting documents without browsing the accounting ledger. Files supplied from a request remain referenced in its conversation.

Reports

The portal exposes live Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet views with period controls. Clients can inspect the results and use the available AI question action. Report access does not allow the client to edit the underlying journals.

Integrations

Clients can connect, reconnect, change account selection, or disconnect their own bank feeds. They can also authorize or disconnect the supported Stripe, Shopify, Square, and TikTok Shop connections for the selected client. These actions manage the connection only; they do not expose transaction or journal ledgers, account mapping, or manual transaction sync controls.

Account

The profile area manages the signed-in user’s own profile and session. It does not manage firm-side client access.

What clients cannot do

Portal access is not the same as firm membership. Portal users cannot browse the raw Transactions or Journals ledgers, including by calling their former client-portal endpoints directly. They also cannot manage the firm’s members, billing, full chart of accounts, period locks, firm-wide integration configuration, account mapping, or manual transaction sync, and cannot authorize themselves for another client.

A safe handoff checklist

  • Send the invitation to a confirmed client email.
  • Select only the recipients who should see each request.
  • Tell the client to open Requests → To do.
  • Direct connection requests to Integrations and name the institution or system they should authorize.
  • Use one clear work item per decision or document set.
  • Review every reply and attachment before posting accounting changes.
  • Revoke access promptly when the relationship or authorized contact changes.
